Overview

Our Mission

To provide students with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens.

The Arizona Department of Education provides the academic standards that we teach. CUSD has broken those standards into performance objectives so that students can demonstrate benchmark competencies. This progress is monitored quarterly. In addition to language arts and mathematics objectives, science and social studies are regular parts of the curriculum. Students receive physical education weekly and participate in general music, library and technology classes. Fifth and sixth grade students may take band or orchestra in lieu of general music.

Curriculum at Hartford

The Hartford Sylvia Encinas staff is focused on student achievement. The standards, along with data and student need, guide our instruction. We believe that every child can learn and experience academic success.  Our entire teaching staff is highly qualified, as determined by the Arizona Department of Education.

Thinking Maps

Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary is proud to offer our students Thinking Maps and Write From the Beginning.

Through the use Thinking Maps, students are better able to create visual patterns that represent their thinking.  There are 8 maps that the students use individually or in combinations to represent their learning.

Write From the Beginning

Thinking Maps build a strong foundation that allow students at HSE to use comprehensive writing program Write From the Beginning. This assists students in writing focused and organized pieces of writing.  Write from the Beginning provides teachers with a clear way to differentiate instruction along with having clear expectations for each grade level.
